We've been dreaming about this website for a long time. In fact, every time we've gone on a big trip, we've had it in our minds eye. We've been gathering recommendations for a while now and as we start another big adventure to Southern and Eastern Africa this year, we'll be looking for new lodges and seeing if they're the kind of place we want to include.
Africa Guestbook finally went live in February 2010, and the response has been great. From the core set of trusted places, it keeps growing as we visit and hear of new places - not just with standard, run of the mill lodges and hotels but with the kinds of places that really stick in the memory for being special.
There are plenty of guidebooks and websites out there, but we think ours is a bit different:
- It's specific to Southern Africa, and is focused on helping you find places in the areas you're travelling in
- All the places we list have either been visited personally by one of our team, or been recommended by people we totally trust
- Limited choice. This is generally a Bad Thing, but sometimes you don't want a million options, you just want the best one
- We focus on you, the user. We've made it as simple as possible, and are adding new features all the time
