Kizolanza - The Old Farm House

All budgets are cleverly catered for but the site is large enough for everyone to have their own space. The most affordable are the campsites, some of which have sheltered but open huts for cooking/camping in case of rain. They do take overlanders, but the groups are far away from all other accommodation, and people seem to come here to relax not party. The toilets and showers in the campsite are all spotless.

Next up in cost, but again very reasonable are the simple but charming stable block and campsite chalets. Kisolanza, also a farm, grows its own flowers and there were fresh flowers in every room we visited.

The campsite cottages at $65 a night with a comfy four poster bed, a fireplace, and a spacious and well designed bathroom were a steal. The luxury farm cottages are huge and beautifully designed with interesting individualistic touches.

The restaurant and bar are cosy and atmospheric (with spectacular sunset views for the latter) and the service is the right balance of personal without being overbearing. Every room has a little red book for suggestions, which Mark, one of the owners reads and responds to.

There are good walks all around in beautiful countryside and Iringa, 50 km away, is a lively, bustly town with a good market and some good places to eat and shop (Neema Arts and Crafts and Hasty Tasty).

All in all a perfect stop on the way to or from Malawi, or a good getaway from Dar for a long weekend.
